I don’t agree with having a woman as watson but not because it takes away from the idea of the sherlock/watson sub-textual homo-eroticism.
It’s because Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote watson as a man and I’m so used to it it just doesn’t fit for me like this. that said, other people disagree with having a modern-day set Sherlock remake at all because to them that doesn’t fit.
these are relevant and normal opinions to have, because we get used to things being the way they were written
Now with that said, if you’re in the Sherlock Holmes fandon only for the gay undertones I think you need to reevaluate your views on what the series is about because there is so much more than two men running around in promiscuity.
“I’m so used to it” breaking news, people are so used to gender inequality and the lack of prominent women in tv shows that they literally do not want a leading woman character just because her character was canonically a man
